… they built the whole system for the wrong body and we are setting the record straight.

Let's get into it

Here is something that nobody in the productivity world will say to you directly: the 24-hour circadian rhythm that every planner, every time management system, every hustle culture framework is built around…?

That is a male biological default.

A man's primary hormonal cycle resets every 24 hours.

Testosterone peaks in the morning, drives focus and output through the day, dips in the evening, resets overnight.

Basic, on repeat, tracing the same figure eight.

That is why the nine to five routine exists.

That is why the morning routine industrial complex exists.

That is why every productivity guru tells you to do your deep work before noon.

And, by all means, they were not lying.

They were just describing a male brain, that is not yours.

A woman's primary biological rhythm is the Infradian rhythm.
And this rhythm runs for approximately 28 days.

This rhythm governs hormones, brain chemistry, metabolism, immune function, stress response, creativity, capacity for risk, social drive, need for solitude, and yes, the full monte of the ability to produce, sell, create, and show up in your business.

It is not a wellness concept.

It is not cycle syncing as a trend. It is biology.

And ignoring it has been costing you in ways you probably attributed to inconsistency, laziness, or simply not being disciplined enough.

You were never inconsistent.

You are cyclical.

There is a profound difference.

"You were never inconsistent. You are cyclical. The system was built for a body that is not yours."

Phase 1 -- Follicular. Days 1 to 14 after your period ends.

Estrogen begins rising. Your brain starts producing more serotonin and dopamine. Cognitive flexibility increases. You are more willing to take risks, try new things, and start projects. Energy is building. This is the phase where new ideas feel genuinely exciting rather than overwhelming.

What this means for your business: this is your ideation and initiation phase.

The optimal time to brainstorm new offers, start new projects, pitch new collaborations, write new content, or do anything that requires creative risk. Your brain is literally more plastic during this phase, more able to make novel connections and entertain possibilities.

For me: this is the playground for: new projects, new pitches, new content angles all get scheduled here.

Did you see that…?

Scheduled.

And it’s not because anything I work on is distant, it’s because it’s deep, personal, layered, and my brain functions in the fullness of expression and my inner ‘BITCH’ simmers down during this phase. If something needs fresh thinking, it goes in the follicular window.

Phase 2 -- Ovulation. Days 14 to 16 approximately.

Estrogen peaks. Testosterone surges briefly.

Luteinizing hormone spikes to trigger ovulation.

This is your highest energy point in the entire cycle.

The verbal fluency is at its peak -- studies show women's communication skills measurably increase during ovulation.

You are more magnetic, more confident, more socially driven.

Your pain tolerance is higher.

Your ability to handle stress is higher.

What this means for your business: this is your visibility window.

The optimal time for live video, speaking, sales conversations, recording content, doing interviews, showing up in rooms that matter. Your body is literally optimized for being seen and heard right now.

Stop wasting this window on anything that would be “admin” or checking the littering of bro-code emails, toss them into a folder for comedy reading in about a week or just drop into an archive box, and toss it out with Wednesday garbage day!

For me: sales calls, live content, podcast recordings, and high-stakes conversations are calendar blocked in the ovulatory window. Not because of a pie in the sky strategy.

Because the data from my own body has reminded me time and time again, this is when all of me is at my sharpest, most intrigued, and most compelling.

Phase 3 -- Luteal. Days 17 to 28 approximately.

Progesterone rises and then falls.

Estrogen drops.

This is the longest phase and the most misunderstood one.

The first half of the luteal phase -- roughly days 17 to 22 -- is actually a window of strong analytical capability.

Progesterone supports focus, attention to detail, and completion energy. The second half -- days 23 to 28 -- is when the clues are given since progesterone drops rapidly.

What this means for your business: the early luteal phase is your editing, refining, and finishing window. Take what you created in follicular and ovulation and make it better. Review contracts. Do your bookkeeping. Write the final detailed drafts of copy.

Complete projects, add a bow on top.

Your brain is detail-oriented and completion-focused right now.

The late luteal phase is a signal to slow down, reduce your social load, and protect your energy for the cycle reset that is coming.

For me: all editing, administrative work, financial reviews, and detail-heavy tasks are scheduled in early luteal. Late luteal is protected: lighter calendar, less output required, more restoration built in.

Phase 4 -- Menstrual. Days 1 to 5 approximately.

Both estrogen and progesterone are at their lowest.

The right and left hemispheres of the brain are in their highest state of communication with each other during menstruation. This is not a coincidence.

It is why many women report their most clear-eyed, honest assessments of their lives and businesses happening during their period. The veil between what you know and what you have been avoiding gets really thin.

This is not a week to push output.

It is a week to receive insight.

What this means for your business: this is your reflection and visioning window.

Not strategy. Not sales. Not high output.

It is the phase for deep journaling. Big picture thinking. Reviewing what is working and what is not. Letting your intuition surface without the pressure of production.

For me: two days before my cycle and the first three days of menstruation are calendar blocked as complete downtime. No calls. No deliverables. No content. No output requirements. I focus most of my time towards family dynamics, board games, painting projects, making new recipes, staying consistent with ‘cycle tea’ and lots of cozy midday reading. At first, I had to force myself into the routine, and now, 17 years later, it’s all non-negotiable. This is the most strategic thing I do all month. Because what comes through in that stillness shapes the entire next cycle.

“Two days before my cycle and the first three days the calendar is blocked. Complete downtime. No calls. No deliverables. No output. This is the most strategic thing I do all month.”

This is not a theoretical framework.

This is a practice.

A practice built over years of paying attention to a body that was trying to communicate something the productivity world never had language for.

The women who build the most sustainable businesses are not the ones who push hardest. They are the ones who have learned to work with their biology instead of against it. Who have stopped apologising for the phases where output drops and started honoring them as the necessary counterbalance to the phases where output soars.

Your infradian rhythm is not an obstacle to your productivity. It is the most sophisticated productivity system you have ever been given. You just were never taught how to read it.

Your three moves this week.

01 - Map your last month backward. Look at when you felt most energised and creative, when you felt most social and visible, when you felt most detail-oriented and focused, and when you felt most depleted and inward. You were not random. You were cycling. Start to see the pattern.

02 - Block one protected window this cycle. Pick the phase you are currently in and block one piece of your calendar that matches what your biology is asking for right now. If you are in follicular, block an ideation session. If you are in luteal, block a completion session. If you are menstrual, block rest. Just one. Start there.

03 - Stop calling it inconsistency. Every time you notice yourself judging your own energy as inconsistent, replace the word. You are not inconsistent. You are cyclical. That reframe is not semantic. It is the foundation of everything that comes next.

Go deeper with Willow.

Issue 03 laid out the science. Now take it to Willow, a somatic pattern tool built for women doing this work, and ask her to help you map your own cycle patterns and identify where your nervous system has been working against your biology instead of with it.

This is where the embodied practice begins.

Next week in Utopia: AI slop is not a strategy. Your voice is. How to use AI as a tool without becoming its output.

I did not learn this from a book.

I learned it from over a decade of ignoring my body and paying the price, and then from the years of rebuilding a business that works with who I actually am here now.

The 28-day rhythm is not a workaround. It is the architecture. And once you start building inside this rhythm, you will wonder how you ever built any other way.
